Many of our members have been asking if they are safe to have information completely removed from their computer if they simply delete those certain files. I recently found this article that may provide a better understanding and a possible solution for this problem.

WHAT REALLY HAPPENS WHEN YOU PRESS “DELETE”?

Back in 2000, Sir Paul McCartney’s bank data was left on a merchant bank’s computer. The machine was then sold without the files or drive being wiped clean. The data was then discovered, and the story ended up all over the news about how this particular bank and possibly others like it were not taking precautions to erase data on old computers, which were later sold or donated.

Drill Breaks Through to Trapped Chilean Miners Updated:
Lauren Frayer, Contributor

AOL News (Oct. 9) — Rescuers have successfully drilled down into the deep chamber where 33 Chilean miners have spent more than two months trapped half a mile underground, but officials say the miners won’t see the light of day until at least Tuesday.

Sirens and bells rang out across the Chilean desert at around 8 a.m. local time today, signaling that one of three drills safely penetrated an underground pocket where the miners have survived for the past 66 days. Cheers went up through crowds at “Camp Hope,” a cluster of tents and kiosks where relatives have kept a vigil for their loved ones. Children lit candles for hope, and women applied makeup ahead of tearful reunions.

GM Receives Same Credit Rating From Fitch as Ford
October 06, 2010, 4:54 PM EDT
Businessweek

Oct. 6 (Bloomberg) — General Motors Co. was given the same credit rating as Ford Motor Co. from Fitch Ratings, which said the largest U.S. automaker has improved its balance sheet as it plans an initial public offering to pare government stakes.

GM was given an initial BB- issuer default rating, the same as Dearborn, Michigan-based Ford, Fitch said in a statement today. The rating for Detroit-based GM, 61 percent owned by the U.S. government, reflects its “strong liquidity position, low leverage, improved cost structure and increasingly competitive product portfolio,” wrote Stephen Brown, a Fitch analyst.

COMPUTER TERMS YOU SHOULD KNOW

As technology evolves, advanced computers and other tech devices appear more complicated and intimidating to the average user. In the event of a malfunction, most users who are limited in tech knowhow dread the call to tech support and frequently lug in their systems to computer stores where professionals can resolve the issue for a hefty price.

Are Craigslist’s “Terms of Use” a Concern for Dealers?
October 07, 2010
Steve Stauning

Craigslist.org, that scrappy little anti-established-everything website that serves over 20,000,000,000 (that’s 20 billion with a “b”) page views each month, has proven to be a good place for automotive dealers to display and sell their used car inventory. Though stronger in major cities, Craigslist’s free classified listings are capable of moving everything from cash cars to late-model and even certified vehicles.

In fact, the site has become such a popular place for displaying inventory that dozens of third party companies now offer varying levels of Craigslist posting services to dealers. Some of these services, which generally operate on a flat fee basis, allow dealers to keep their inventory at the top of the Craigslist listings. Craigslist, you see, displays all classified listings in a traditional (old fashioned) reverse chronological order. This means the newest listings are displayed first, followed by older listings. This requires dealers to post some, or all of their inventory every day if they want to always stand out with consumers.

GM Recalls 4,000 Cadillac Crossovers

10/07/2010

General Motors Corp. said in a statement today they are conducting a voluntary safety recall of 3,996 Cadillac SRX crossovers from the 2010 model year for a possible damage to the power steering line.

GM said based on analysis, the issue is believed to exist in only two or three of the recalled vehicles. If the line is damaged, power steering fluid could leak, and if the fluid sprays onto hot engine parts, an engine compartment fire could result. GM is aware of one such fire in an unattended SRX related to this condition. There have been no related crashes or injuries.

The vehicles involved in the recall were built in December 2009 and the majority of the affected vehicles (3,460) are in the United States.

GM said owners will be notified by mail and the inspection and any necessary repair will be performed free of charge.

SEPTEMBER U.S. AUTO SALES
U.S. sales rise 29%; most automakers advance in year’s strongest month
Automotive News — October 1, 2010 – 10:49 am ET

U.S. auto sales climbed 29 percent last month, the biggest gain of the year, as the industry resumed its recovery from last year’s collapse.

All but one company posted an increase as automakers benefited from comparisons to September 2009, when sales and inventory collapsed in the wake of U.S. cash-for-clunkers incentives. Last month’s seasonally adjusted sales rate as calculated by Automotive News was 12.2 million, the highest since “clunkers.”

“It’s a solid month, another step in a stable, somewhat painful recovery,” said analyst Jesse Toprak of TrueCar.com.

Chrysler Group led the gainers with a 61 percent increase, while Ford Motor Co. posted a 40 percent gain.

SEPTEMBER IS MEMBERSHIP MONTH

This month the OIADA will be concentrating on spreading the word to all the non-members of our great Dealer Association. We will be conducting a Membership Drive this week in Cincinnati on Tuesday at the Adesa Cincinnati/Dayton Auto Auction in Franklin Ohio and on Thursday we will be conducting a Membership Drive at the Manheim Cincinnati Auto Auction on Mulhauser Road. All new members signing up this week will also be entered into a drawing for two free tickets to a Cincinnati Bengal Football Game. That’s two free tickets to be given away at each Auction.

The OIADA was started more than 25 years ago by a group of dealers and auto auctions who had a vision of creating what is available to the non-franchised independent dealer today. Members of the OIADA enjoy many dealer only discounts on programs such as, Workers Compensation, Health Care, Auto Parts, Display Signs and Supplies, Credit Card Processing, Credit Checks and Buy Fee – Sell Fee Discounts from many Auctions in Ohio and Pennsylvania just to name a few. Add all of this to a dealer hotline that will get you answers to all of your questions within 24 hours and you can see why the OIADA is one of only three State Associations that has increased it’s membership to an all time high surpassing any previous year in its history.

The Independent Dealer needs a source that they can rely upon for answers and solutions to all of their problems and the OIADA will continue to be there to represent their needs in all legislative matters as well.

If you are a current member of the OIADA, Thank You for your continued support. If you are not a member of the OIADA….. DON’T DELAY…….JOIN TODAY.

Thank you
